RMV is adjusting its fares for the coming year: The new senior citizens' ticket and the schoolchildren's ticket will make you mobile for one euro per day. Prices are rising slightly in the city of Giessen and the municipality of Heuchelheim.

Travelling throughout Hesse on public transport operated by RMV, NVV and VRN for one euro a day - what was previously reserved for school pupils and trainees will also be available to everyone aged 65 and over from January 2020. The new senior ticket replaces the previous 65-plus annual travelcard and offers more than just price advantages. It is sometimes even valid outside of Hesse, for example in Mainz or other municipalities close to the border. It enables you to travel to important transfer stations such as Worms and Warburg.

The Seniorenticket Hessen is available in two versions. The basic version entitles holders to travel on buses and trains from 9 a.m. on weekdays and all day on weekends and public holidays. However, there is no entitlement to a lift.

In contrast to the Hesse Comfort Senior Citizens' Ticket: for an extra charge of around 70 cents a day - the annual price is 625 euros - all over 65-year-olds can take one adult and any number of children up to and including the age of 14 with them after 7 pm and all day at weekends and on public holidays. In return, you can use all RMV, NVV and VRN transport services around the clock. The ticket also entitles the holder to travel in 1st class on all trains operated by the Hessian transport associations - with no additional charge.

Switching made easy

If you already have a 65-plus annual travelcard that is still valid in 2020, you can of course continue to use it. However, it is also possible to switch to the new senior ticket. More information is available at the RMV mobility centre in the SWG customer centre on Marktplatz.

Both the Hesse Senior Citizens' Ticket and the Hesse Schoolchildren's Ticket are important steps towards a socio-ecological transport transition. The tickets make public transport throughout Hesse even cheaper and therefore more attractive.

Price adjustments in 2020

The good news first: the student ticket will be available again next year for 365 euros and will therefore cost the same as when it was introduced three years ago. The fares for the city of Giessen and the municipality of Heuchelheim will be adjusted on 1 January 2020. The price for a single journey will rise by 10 cents to 2.30 euros. The monthly ticket for adults will now cost 47.40 euros instead of the previous 46.70 euros. The Giessen Pass weekly ticket remains the same price for adults as well as for schoolchildren and trainees at 6.30 euros and 5.40 euros respectively. A single journey with the Giessenpass will cost 1.20 euros from January. And the monthly ticket will be 30 cents more expensive and will therefore cost 21 euros from January.
