In future, Stadtwerke Giessen wants to support grassroots sport in the region much more than before - especially in the youth sector. Company spokeswoman Ina Weller, Uwe Volbrecht, Head of the Swimming Pools department, and Stephanie Orlik, Marketing Services & Sponsoring, presented the new concept called "Spiel dein Spiel" (Play your game) at a press event at the Ringallee outdoor pool.

"With energy. For the region." - In line with the company motto, Stadtwerke Gießen (SWG) is adjusting its sponsorship concept and reorganising its commitment to sport. Instead of mainly supporting top-class sport in Giessen and the surrounding municipalities as before, SWG now wants to support the important work of young talent in clubs and organisations. "We are now placing a much stronger focus on young people in grassroots sport, because this is precisely where financial support is needed," explained SWG company spokesperson Ina Weller during the press event on 24 July, explaining the new direction.

The name says it all
"Play your game" - the name of SWG's new sponsorship programme aptly sums up the new concept. The idea behind it: To support children in getting active through play and to enable young people to develop their sporting skills. SWG is not focussing on one type of sport or on clubs. The company would also like to support schools or private initiatives that give children the chance to take part in organised sport. "During our research, we realised that children and young people in particular often lack the means to repair or replace defective sports equipment, for example. This is exactly where we want to help," said Stephanie Orlik, responsible for Marketing Services & Sponsoring at SWG, explaining the project.
Applying for sponsorship is very simple. An online form can be found at www.swg-spieldeinspiel.de, which clubs can complete and add a video. SWG will review each application and inform you shortly whether they will sponsor the project and, if so, in what form.

Action day at the Ringallee outdoor pool
For Stadtwerke Gießen, "Spiel dein Spiel" is much more than just a sponsorship concept. Above all, it's about encouraging children and young people to get active and enjoy sport. The youngsters from the TSG Blau-Gold Gießen dance club and MTV 1846 Gießen showed what this means at the press event. They played their game on several so-called guerrilla courts at the Ringallee outdoor pool. These guerrilla courts are sports facilities that can be set up quickly and with simple means in almost any location. Ordinary pillars become a football goal, chalk lines transform an ordinary pavement into a running track and recorded step sequences offer the opportunity to learn a dance. "Almost any place is suitable for playing sport. These sports facilities are intended to encourage people to follow their natural urge to exercise with joy," explained Stephanie Orlik, pointing out that the guerrilla courts will be seen more frequently at events in Giessen in future - including on 27 August. The SWG will be organising a "Play your game" day at the Ringallee outdoor pool. Here, sports clubs will present their programmes for children and young people - including more exotic sports. A visit is doubly worthwhile. In addition to the interesting demonstrations, the well-known and popular stations of the water adventure day are also waiting - especially for the younger guests.
