On 1 January 2019, the Rhein-Main-Verkehrsverbund (RMV) will adjust its fares. As part of this network, Stadtwerke Gießen (SWG) will also have to change its prices for using the city buses. The good news is that not all fares are affected. The prices for single journeys, day tickets and group day tickets will remain stable. The monthly pass for adults, on the other hand, will be 80 cents more expensive. The price of the 9 o'clock monthly travelcard and the 65 Plus monthly travelcard will also rise from 39 euros to 39.70 euros. Accordingly, from 1 January 2019, the annual pass will cost 457.50 euros and the 9 o'clock annual pass and the 65-plus annual pass will cost 389.30 euros. The Giessen Pass fare for single journeys will also remain the same. From 1 January 2018, the weekly ticket will cost €6.30 and the monthly ticket €20.70.
There will also be no changes to the Hesse schoolchildren's ticket for the time being. The popular ticket is still available for 365 euros if the amount is paid in one go by direct debit or in cash. Those who choose twelve instalments pay 372 euros.
Buy tickets conveniently online
Some tickets have been available in the RMV online shop for some time. From 1 January 2019, the Hesse schoolchildren's ticket and the 65-plus annual season ticket will be added to this offer. Both were previously only available from RMV mobility centres or by post.
Travel even cheaper at Christmas
Pay for one day, travel for three - RMV is offering this Christmas promotion again this year. This means that all day and group day tickets purchased on 24 December 2018 in the selected area are also valid on the two Christmas holidays.
The staff at the RMV mobility centre in the SWG customer centre on Marktplatz will be happy to help with any questions about mobility. The new timetable book is also available here for a nominal charge of one euro. Opening hours: Mondays to Fridays from 9 am to 6 pm and Saturdays from 10 am to 2 pm. Further information on the timetable and fare changes as well as lots of interesting facts about local transport can be found at www.swg-verkehr.de.
