Regardless of the score at the end of today's basketball game in the River Barracks sports hall, the Stadtwerke were sure to win right from the start. And the Tour of Hope will also benefit from this. Because SWG's basketball operations team, the Dragons, took on the challenge of the gas and water supply department (pipe network), the pipelayers.
Both teams battled from the very first minute, not only out of sporting ambition, but also for a good cause. For every point scored in the match, the opponent will pay one euro to the Tour der Hoffnung in aid of children with cancer.
The twelve basketball players who put their all into their teams looked really professional. Not only the basketball shirts were reminiscent of professional sport, but also the atmosphere in the sports hall was simply fantastic. The numerous spectators - superiors, colleagues, family and friends of the players - not only cheered on their favourites, but also did their bit for a good cause. The visitors did not miss the opportunity to make a donation to the Tour der Hoffnung.
While the fans cheered on their teams, the two referees had their hands full. The two referees had the exciting game well under control. After four quarters and a fair game, the winner was decided.
But in the end, the score of 39 to 37 in favour of the Dragons was less important than the 2,076 euros that were donated in aid of children with cancer.
With the final whistle and the award ceremony, the sports enthusiasts from Stadtwerke, Michael Pohley, Wolfgang Becker and Matthias Noyal, also handed over the donations to Gerhard Becker and Volker Klein from the Tour der Hoffnung.
