A successful cooperation is entering the next round: Stadtwerke Giessen and MTV 1846 Giessen are renewing their collaboration.

With its enormous range of sports, MTV 1846 Giessen, which celebrated its 175th anniversary last year, is a real flagship for the city: from aikido to yoga, there are now 30 sports on the programme. These include classics such as football, fencing and athletics, but also more unusual disciplines such as floorball, roundnet or quidditch, which is actually based on the fictional game from the Harry Potter films. In order to be able to maintain such a broad spectrum for all age groups and performance levels, clubs today are dependent on support: "As a company with regional roots, we are happy to take on responsibility here. And we are particularly proud of our successful cooperation with Giessen's largest sports club," emphasises Ulli Boos, company spokesman for Stadtwerke Giessen (SWG). In mid-February, representatives of SWG and MTV signed the corresponding contract, extending the co-operation for a further three years.

Sought and found

In fact, the co-operation partners fit together exceptionally well: "Both SWG and MTV are moving the region forward and making it worth living in. With our support for the traditional club, we ensure that people of all ages have access to leisure, health and competitive sport," adds Ulli Boos.

Mehmet Tanriverdi, Chairman of MTV Giessen, also knows that the mix of professional organisation and traditional club is well received: "We are the club with the most members in Giessen." For families in particular, but also for senior citizens, the veteran of the Giessen sports scene is a real - and affordable - alternative to gyms and the like. "The vast majority of members feel connected to 'their' club - and remain loyal to us for many years," says Mehmet Tanriverdi.

The programme reflects exactly this: parent-child gymnastics for the very youngest members is followed by a wide range of sports for children, teenagers and young adults as well as special courses for the older generation - from bridge to adventure dancing, Nordic walking and bounce ball to various rehabilitation sports groups, everything is included. "In Stadtwerke Gießen, we have found a strong partner who supports us in remaining a contact point for people from all walks of life and generations," says a delighted Mehmet Tanriverdi.

Successes in professional sport

In addition to its involvement in recreational and popular sports, the MTV is also leaving its mark in the professional arena: the Gießen 46ers - another SWG partner - emerged from the MTV. The Giessen Golden Dragons are also part of the large MTV family. The footballers have managed to regain promotion to GFL 2, the second-highest German league. "Such a broad spectrum is unique in the region. This is another reason why we are particularly pleased to be able to continue our cooperation with MTV Giessen in the future," emphasises Ulli Boos.
