Stadtwerke Gießen is committed to children's and youth sport with its "Play your game" sponsorship concept. The cycling club Teutonia 1910 e. V. Krofdorf-Gleiberg has now received support as part of the campaign.

Wettenberg. German champion 2016 for the U13 pupils and German runner-up 2017 for the U15 pupils in cycle ball - these outstanding achievements in the past two years show the great importance of youth work at the Teutonia 1910 e. V. Krofdorf-Gleiberg cycling club. In fact, 16 children and young people between the ages of seven and 17 currently train regularly in the Burgstraße sports hall. These include the promising youngest talents in the U11 schoolboys, who qualified for the Hesse Championships, and the current U13 duo, who made it to the quarter-finals of the German Championships.

On Tuesday 17 April, the club received two new bicycle balls and two new goal nets worth around 600 euros from Stadtwerke Gießen (SWG) so that the dedicated youngsters can continue to practise and hone their skills in good conditions.

"It's in the nature of our sport that things break from time to time, especially with the younger, less experienced players," explains Dieter Schmidt, the club's second chairman. "When I heard about 'Spiel' Dein Spiel', it was immediately clear that we would apply." Projects such as the youth work of Teutonia Krofdorf-Gleiberg fulfil the conditions of the SWG youth development concept "Spiel' Dein Spiel" in an ideal way. "So we decided to support the Teutons," recalls Stephanie Orlik, who is responsible for sponsorship at SWG. "The work of the club and especially the two coaches Norbert Leicht and Martin Wagner is completely in line with the idea of 'Spiel' Dein Spiel'. Our aim is to encourage children and young people to enjoy exercise and to emphasise the fun of sport. If this results in such great performances in a rather exotic sport like cycle ball - all the better," explains Stephanie Orlik at the handover.

The donation makes it easier for those responsible at Teutonia to carry out their voluntary work. The balls and goal nets came at just the right time for the club. Because Teutonia is involved in a truly marginal sport, those responsible have to turn over every euro twice. "Sponsorship like this helps comparatively small clubs like us enormously," says a delighted Thomas Abel, the first chairman of Teutonia Krofdorf-Gleiberg.

Clubs, schools and private initiatives can apply for sponsorship as part of the "Spiel' Dein Spiel" programme - simply online using the form at www.swg-spieldeinspiel.de. SWG checks all applications received and informs the applicant at short notice whether and in what form they will support the project. Each month, SWG supports one club, school or other organisation that enables children to exercise.
