Lots of action at the Ringallee outdoor pool

Numerous visitors took advantage of the "Spiel' Dein Spiel" - City Day to try out various offers from regional sports clubs.
Around 4,500 young and old visitors accepted the invitation from Stadtwerke Gießen (SWG) and came to the "Spiel' Dein Spiel" - City Day at the Ringallee outdoor pool last Sunday and took the opportunity to get to know a wide range of different sports. A total of seven clubs from Giessen and the surrounding area took up the offer to present themselves and their sports to a wider public.
"We've been organising 'Spiel' Dein Spiel' - City Day for so many years now. And it's always great to see how much fun the children in particular have getting a taste of the various sports," says a delighted Matthias Funk, Technical Director at SWG. In fact, the popular event is the highlight of the "Play your game" campaign every year, with which SWG pursues a clear goal: To get children and young people interested in sport and exercise. The many clubs in the region play a central role in this approach. "With their numerous volunteer trainers, they provide a valuable service to society. And that's exactly what we want to support with our campaign," adds Andreas Hergaß, Commercial Director of SWG.
Something for everyone
SWG once again managed to put together a rich programme for the seventh edition of this popular event. A real highlight was floorball, a sport that is still relatively unknown in Germany, presented by MTV 1846 Gießen. This is basically a mixture of hockey and ice hockey, i.e. a fast, action-packed game. Football is even more physical. The American sport has long had many fans in this country too. And the Giessen Golden Dragons are great ambassadors in Giessen and at City Day. The GIESSEN 46ers basketball team presented another top American sport - while HSG Kleenheim-Langgöns, HSG Pohlheim and HSG Wettenberg focussed on handball. Much less robustness was required at the DC Cartoon Gießen stand. This is because darts does not focus on strength and endurance, but on dexterity - especially hand-eye coordination. And at the Rock 'n' Roll with the Giessener Tanz-Club 74, visitors could put their swing and sense of rhythm to the test. In his circus barn, Michael Rogalla, alias clown Ichmael, showed the young guests how to balance on a large ball or juggle with scarves. Course leader Claudia Storck motivated numerous dancers to top performances in aqua Zumba.
The idea behind it
As part of the "Play your game" campaign, SWG has been supporting clubs, schools and other institutions involved in children's and youth sport since 2017. Usually with donations, but also with the "Spiel' Dein Spiel" - City Day, which has been part of the programme from the very beginning. The event offers clubs from Giessen and the surrounding area a platform to publicise themselves and their activities to a wider audience and thus gain one or two new members.
