Life without mould

On 16 December at 5.30 pm, Stadtwerke Gießen will be explaining how to prevent mould in living spaces in its "Energy Knowledge on Tuesday" lecture series.

Dark spots on the walls - especially in poorly ventilated corners or in the bathroom - are not just ugly to look at. They usually indicate mould infestation. And this is associated with serious health risks, especially for people who are otherwise weakened. Fortunately, there are ways and means of keeping the uninvited guest out of your own four walls. "It is usually enough to follow a few simple rules, but some scientific background can also help to prevent mould," reveals Moritz Müller, energy consultant at Stadtwerke Gießen (SWG). These practical guidelines and valuable knowledge for everyday life are an essential part of the online lecture "Avoiding mould - controlling indoor air correctly" from the "Energy knowledge on Tuesday" series. On 16 December at 5.30 pm, an SWG expert will shed light on all the important aspects of mould in the home. For a better understanding, the lecture begins with the definition of mould. The speaker will explain what conditions microorganisms need. This is followed by a brief and understandable excursion into building physics. "If you know what mould needs to develop, you can prevent it relatively easily. Simply by making the conditions as unsuitable as possible for the microorganisms," says Moritz Müller, explaining the structure of the lecture.

Lots of useful tips
This much can already be revealed: Essentially, the fight against mould revolves around lowering the humidity and ensuring that unavoidable water vapour does not condense on cool walls. "Mould doesn't stand a chance in dry places," adds Moritz Müller. Consequently, the lecture provides plenty of information on the various methods for regulating humidity and useful tools for determining the indoor climate.

Take part from the comfort of your own home
"Energy Knowledge on Tuesday" is an online offer from the SWG energy advice centre. Anyone interested can register at energieberatung@stadtwerke-giessen.de until 14 December. The lecture starts on 16 December at 5.30 pm. SWG will send out a participation link in good time. It goes without saying that SWG will also guarantee a dialogue with the speaker in this format. Towards the end of the event, he will answer any questions that arise during the presentation.
