From condensing boilers to heat pumps and combined heat and power units to district heating connections - anyone looking for the right heating system for a building is often faced with a difficult task. Stadtwerke Gießen took up the topic in a presentation at the customer centre and provided information on the various solutions and legal requirements for new buildings.

Energy-efficient heating technology is an important factor when it comes to reducing the energy requirements of residential buildings and complying with the requirements of the German Energy Saving Ordinance (EnEV). "The requirements are constantly increasing, especially in the new-build sector," says Martin Lorenz, energy consultant at Stadtwerke Gießen (SWG). And he adds: "Not every heating system works equally well in every building."
At an information event on 29 June at the customer centre on Giessen's market square, the energy consultant provided his interested audience with an overview of the various heating systems and also discussed their benefits in terms of cost-effectiveness and climate protection. "Anyone who modernises an old heating system or opts for really efficient systems when building a new one not only saves money, but also protects the environment," was his central thesis.

Decisive questions
If a homeowner is thinking about a new heating system, they should ask themselves the following questions: What energy sources are available, what is the energy requirement of the building in question and is it possible to use renewable energy, such as solar thermal collectors? A full cost comparison is also part of any planning - both for new builds and refurbishments. In addition, many properties can be connected to the SWG district heating network or a local heating network. This option offers several advantages: Homeowners rely on climate-friendly generated heat, do not have to install their own heating system and thus save space and money. In addition, there is no need for regular maintenance work on a boiler or the costs of a chimney sweep.

Keyword new build and refurbishment: In both cases, the KfW banking group supports owners and builders with low-interest loans and repayment grants. Martin Lorenz also went into this in his presentation, explaining the conditions attached to these state subsidies.

Anyone who was unable to attend the presentation but is looking for a suitable heating system for their property can ask the energy advisors at the SWG customer centre on the market square any questions on the subject from Monday to Friday between 9 am and 6 pm and on Saturdays from 9 am to 2 pm. Of course, the SWG experts also offer advice by telephone on 0641 708-1453. Lots of information is also available around the clock on the SWG website www.energiessen.de
