Gas, heat pump or combined heat and power unit - anyone who wants to find the right heating system for a building is often overwhelmed by the different heating systems. At a presentation in the customer centre on 30 June, Stadtwerke Gießen provided information about different heating solutions and legal requirements for new buildings.

Energy-efficient heating technology plays a decisive role in keeping the annual energy requirements of residential buildings low and complying with the legal requirements of the German Energy Saving Ordinance (EnEV). "The requirements are constantly increasing, especially for new buildings," explains Martin Lorenz, energy consultant at Stadtwerke Gießen (SWG). "Depending on the type of building, some heating options make more sense than others," he adds.
At an information event on 30 June at the customer centre on Giessen's market square, the energy consultant provided interested parties with an overview of the various heating solutions and their benefits in terms of cost-effectiveness and climate protection. "Anyone who modernises their old heating system or opts for efficient systems when building a new one not only saves money, but also protects the environment," says the energy consultant.
At the beginning of their considerations, homeowners should ask themselves the following questions: What energy sources are available to me, what is the energy requirement of the building in question and which combinations of renewable energies and conventional heating systems complement each other sensibly? A full cost comparison is also part of the planning process - both for new builds and refurbishments. In both cases, the KfW banking group supports owners and builders with low-interest loans and repayment subsidies. Since April, the subsidies have been increased once again.

Anyone looking for a suitable heating system can also get support from the energy advisors at Stadtwerke Giessen from Monday to Friday between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. and on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. - by telephone on 0641 708-1453 or on site at the SWG customer centre on Marktplatz. Information is also available around the clock on the SWG website www.energiessen.de.
