Once again in 2022, four young people successfully completed their training at Stadtwerke Gießen.

Training the skilled workers that are so important for the future in-house - this strategy has been a success at Stadtwerke Gießen (SWG) for many years. This year, SWG can once again boast some great successes in this sector: On 31 January, Matthias Funk, Technical Director of SWG, presented the graduation certificates to an industrial clerk, two electronics technicians for industrial engineering and an automotive mechatronics technician at a small ceremony "I am extremely pleased that SWG has once again been able to optimally prepare four young people for the upcoming tasks in their professional lives," explained Matthias Funk on the occasion of the handover and added: "Experience has taught us that we provide our trainees with everything they need for a successful career. That's why I'm sure that these four will also go their own way."

Taken on directly

Three of the four young specialists will remain with SWG for the time being. Industrial clerk Adine Knippel is joining the Customer Services department. Jonas Groß will take on future tasks in the Metering Services department as an electronics technician for operating technology. Digitalisation is currently progressing extremely quickly in this area, which was previously known as metering. His companion over the past three and a half years, Moritz Winterkorn, is now also making a contribution to digitalisation. He is part of the System Management & Secondary Technology team - an area that also houses SWG's state-of-the-art interconnected grid control centre. "Digitalisation also presents us with real challenges in training. Because the requirements are changing in practically all professions. It's always a matter of keeping pace," summarises Matthias Funk.

Only Jan-Henrik Sandweg is leaving his training company. The young automotive mechatronics technician specialising in commercial vehicles has taken up a position in another company. "We wish him all the best and I am sure that he will be more than up to his professional tasks," Matthias Funk continues.

Part of the big SWG family

The three young specialists who are continuing to work at SWG have initially been given contracts for one year, as is customary in the company. However, there is a good chance that all three will be able to switch to permanent employment in the coming year. This is because SWG usually takes on its own junior staff on a permanent basis. "We regularly need well-trained staff, especially in the commercial sector. But it also makes sense for us to train our own junior staff in the commercial sector and integrate them into the team later on," adds Matthias Funk. The reason for this is obvious: anyone who has trained at SWG knows the company, knows how everything works and often already has experience of the tasks ahead. Filling vacancies with their own trainees is therefore the preferred solution at SWG.
