The Kirch-/Pohl-Göns/Butzbach handball team will also be using a so-called handball pyramid during training in future. The money to purchase the equipment was donated by Stadtwerke Gießen.
Sinking a handball into the corner of the goal at high speed, passing it across the pitch to a teammate with pinpoint accuracy or passing it past the opponent's defence to your own circle runner - all this requires a sophisticated throwing technique, good coordination and quick reactions. Three skills that handball players work on in almost every training session. "From the minis to the senior teams, playing with the ball - i.e. various throwing and catching exercises - is part of it," explains Daniela Ivenz, coach of the female E-youth at the Kirch-/Pohl-Göns/Butzbach handball club (HSG). Around 90 adult athletes and 175 children and young people are currently chasing goals at the HSG - including eleven girls in the female E-youth team. Coach Daniela Ivenz and her co-coaches Sabrina Volpe-Hopp and Rebecca Högel are focussing on variety in their sessions with the girls and are looking forward to being able to incorporate new exercises in the future. The HSG has acquired a so-called handball pyramid with the support of Stadtwerke Gießen (SWG). The pyramid - covered with elasticated nets and tarpaulins - is suitable for throwing and catching training.
"We already had the idea of buying a handball pyramid a few years ago. However, due to the costs, we have always had to postpone this plan to the future," explains Werner Jäger, 1st Chairman of HSG Kirch-/Pohl-Göns/Butzbach. Michael Rösner, who works in the Marketing & Sales department at Stadtwerke Gießen and whose daughter plays handball in the club's E-youth team, knew about this plan. "Finally realising an idea that was born a long time ago - I knew that Stadtwerke would be able to support the HSG," explains Michael Rösner. He therefore suggested HSG for one of the 75 good deeds.
The SWG employee recently presented the symbolic donation cheque for the purchase of a handball pyramid to Werner Jäger, Karl Schuller, youth manager of HSG Kirch-/Pohl-Göns/Butzbach, Eva Maria Schuller from the HSG support association and treasurer Martin Calling. Those responsible expressed their thanks for this help and Karl Schuller emphasised: "Popular sport plays a major role in the Central Hesse region. However, due to limited budgets, many clubs cannot finance everything that benefits the athletes. A commitment like that of Stadtwerke Giessen means that some wishes can be fulfilled after all."
