Stiftung Warentest recently confirmed this once again: Drinking water in Germany fulfils the highest quality criteria and even surpasses supermarket water in terms of mineral content. This year, children once again learnt where the number one precious foodstuff comes from and how it reaches the households of people in Giessen and the surrounding area at the holiday play event organised by Stadtwerke Giessen (SWG) at the Queckborn waterworks. Around 500 girls and boys from 17 municipalities in the district of Giessen were able to take a look behind the scenes and give free rein to their curiosity during a question and answer session.
In a film, the children learned why drinking water plays such an important role for people and what tasks SWG performs to provide this liquid foodstuff to every household.
Water obstacle course
The programme then included a sporting challenge. The girls and boys competed against each other in three disciplines in a water Olympics. A playful competition in which the learning effect took centre stage. The game "Save the fish", for example, centred on the topic of water pollution and how it can be prevented.
The little ones then had to transport a container filled with water through an obstacle course. The main aim was to have fun and everyone received a small gift at the end.
