Games about the most precious foodstuff - drinking water

The Stadtwerke Gießen AG (SWG) holiday games have been running again since the start of the summer holidays. "Waterworks in Action" is this year's motto on the grounds of the waterworks in the Grünberg district of Queckborn. Every day, 35 young athletes take on the challenge of consciously handling the number one foodstuff - drinking water. In the first two weeks, over 300 children have already taken advantage of SWG's holiday offer. Before the children got into sporting action on the grounds of the waterworks, there was a lot to learn about the most precious of foods. The children learnt where water comes from. More than 60 per cent of the cool water that flows out of the taps in Giessen city centre comes from the Queckborn waterworks. A pantomime game was designed to show the children what everyone needs water for. In this way, the Giessen-based water supplier illustrated the everyday use of water to its young guests. Conscious use of waterWith the water games, SWG wants to encourage children to use drinking water consciously - and in a playful way. After the most important information about drinking water, the children went out to the water Olympics on the grounds of the waterworks. There, the kids completed three different disciplines. The first task was to save the fish. With huge fins on their feet, the kids trudged off and had to relocate plastic fish from a contaminated body of water to a pond with clean water. "Water for your village" was designed to show the children how difficult it is in some parts of the world to transport water and get it to the village. They walked on stilts to a swivel pump, filled the water buckets there and brought them back to the village via an obstacle course. In the "water course", the participants had to transport 105 litres of water - the average daily consumption of a Giessen citizen. So much exercise made them hungry and thirsty; the SWG had also prepared something for this. Further prizesAt the end, the participants received an inflatable swimming noodle for their achievements. The water professionals were also able to take part in a competition. Stadtwerke Bebob stunt kites were given away as prizes.
