After a two-year break due to coronavirus, Stadtwerke Gießen invited children aged six to twelve to the Fabius holiday games. Between 25 July and 12 August, over 300 children came to the Queckborn waterworks.

Stadtwerke Gießen (SWG) showed numerous young guests how the precious commodity of drinking water gets from the spring to the home and what exactly is needed for extraction and transport. The framework for this was provided by the popular Fabius holiday games, which took place again this summer at the Queckborn waterworks.

The informative and above all entertaining excursion is traditionally part of the holiday programme in the district of Giessen. And as usual, SWG - above all Michael Rogalla in the costume of the SWG mascot Fabius - offered plenty of fun, action and interesting facts about water.

Varied programme
Over the course of the eleven identical morning events, more than 300 children from 15 municipalities in the district learnt lots of interesting facts about the number one foodstuff and how it gets to the taps. At the beginning, SWG showed a film that explained to the young viewers the central importance of clean drinking water and the effort required to obtain and transport it. This film is also available online: https://www.facebook.com/SWGFabius

This informative part was followed by the fun part. The children first learnt the importance of careful handling of water in a pantomime game. This was also the focus of the popular Water Olympics with three disciplines. The girls and boys were able to put their dexterity to the test in an obstacle course. They had to overcome obstacles with a container filled with water in their hands and spill as little as possible.

Of course, SWG also provided the necessary refreshments. After the numerous activities, there were sausages and sandwiches. Finally, everyone received a small gift: a ticket for the Ringallee swimming centre. As a reward for the effort, so to speak.
