The heat of the past week has not only affected people, but increasingly also the technology: the lifts in the multi-storey car park at Giessen station have broken down several times. In some cases, SWG technicians had to free people from the glazed cabins. "To prevent this, we currently have no choice but to switch off some of the lifts during the day," said Mathias Carl, Managing Director of SWG subsidiary MIT.BUS, from whose control centre in Lahnstraße the car park and its lifts are monitored.
The reason for the lifts stopping is due to the design: the oil in the drive hydraulics overheats in the unusually high temperatures and the lift stops. However, this does not pose a danger to passengers. The lifts should be back in operation as soon as the temperatures allow. This could be the case in the next few days.
"We would like to expressly apologise to anyone who has been inconvenienced by the shutdown of the lifts," emphasised Mathias Carl. As the operator, SWG is obliged to shut down any lifts that are not working properly without delay.
Passengers who are unable to make their own way to or from the platform should contact the Deutsche Bahn AG service staff and can call 0561-786 1055 for assistance in urgent cases.
