Stadtwerke Gießen supplies Wettenberg with heat from heating container

Stadtwerke Gießen AG (SWG) is relying on heat from the container to ensure the district heating supply for the residents of Wettenberg in the Baumäcker development area. SWG has been using the flexible heat from the heating container to supply the first houses on site since July until the planned connection to the district heating network is possible. In autumn, the heat for customers in the new development area will then flow from the Schunk combined heat and power plant (CHP).

Nothing will change in terms of billing - SWG will bill customers as if they were already being supplied with district heating from the supply network.

SWG already has experience in using heating containers. However, the municipal utilities have so far only used rental containers. SWG did not rent the container for this project as usual, but had it manufactured by a specialised company from the region. The natural gas-fired container centre has a maximum heat output of 560 kilowatts. This mobile plant will enable the municipal utility to react flexibly to emergencies at its customers' premises in future.
