Head of SWG on the board of the VKU regional group
Andreas Hergaß was elected to the board of the Hessian regional group of the German Association of Local Utilities (VKU).
On 22 May 2025, the representatives of the member companies of the Hessian regional group of the Association of Municipal Enterprises (VKU) met. This year's programme again included the election of the Executive Board. Andreas Hergaß, Commercial Director of Stadtwerke Gießen (SWG), received the confidence of the delegates and was unanimously elected to the Executive Board of the VKU Hesse regional group. "I am delighted that the committee has entrusted me with this exciting task. For me, the election is both recognition and an incentive to continue actively promoting the interests of the various municipal companies in Hesse," explains Andreas Hergaß. Dr Michael Maxelon, Chairman of the Management Board of Mainova AG, Frankfurt, was elected to head the Board - also unanimously. The term of office for the entire regional group board is four years.
Not just in their own interests
166 municipal companies throughout Hesse are organised in the VKU. They invest around 1.4 billion euros annually, generate a turnover of more than 15 billion euros and employ 28,500 people. These figures show just how committed municipal companies are to providing for the common good. "Basically, the VKU Hesse regional group always represents the interests of almost 6.3 million people. This is an aspect that particularly motivates me," adds Andreas Hergaß.
Andreas Hergaß believes it is extremely important to intensify dialogue with state politicians. In fact, these discussions are particularly important in view of the tasks and challenges ahead. This is because the work of municipal companies is becoming increasingly complex. After all, they play a decisive role in decarbonising the energy supply, securing the water infrastructure or the disposal and recycling of waste, as well as many other important issues. "We take our job very seriously. Coordinating well and pulling together is crucial for success. This is exactly what I want to do my part for," says Andreas Hergaß, explaining his commitment to the Executive Board of the VKU Hesse regional group.
