Speed guaranteed: Stadtwerke Gießen is sponsoring four new sets of tyres for the youth karts of the Auto-Motorradsportclub Pohlheim.
"It's like Formula 1: good tyres are extremely important in racing," says Daniel Puschner from Hattenrod, 2nd Chairman of the Auto-Motorradsportclub (AMSC) Pohlheim. "That's why we are particularly pleased about the new sets of tyres for the club's two youth karts, which we were able to purchase thanks to the support of Stadtwerke Gießen (SWG)." Daniel Puschner knows what he's talking about. He is an avid motorsport fan and drove karts himself for two years as a child. He has been a member of the AMSC since 2005 and is still active: he drives autocross, for example in the MSC Schlüchtern circuit cup.
Daniel Puschner has been working in the Technical Services department at SWG since 2011 and nominated the AMSC Pohlheim as part of the 75 good deeds. "Racing places high demands on man and machine. Only with flawless material are we able to optimally promote our young kart drivers." Thanks to SWG, the club is able to purchase four sets of tyres: two sets of slicks - the treadless dry tyres - as well as one set of rain tyres and one set of intermediates for the wet and drying track.
On the road in the cones course
The AMSC Pohlheim has been in existence since 1972 and now has 130 members, including 21 youngsters. The little ones can live out their enthusiasm for speed here from an early age: from the age of three, initially still unmotorised in a Kettcar, then from the age of six in a motorised kart. And the promotion of young talent is bearing fruit. The youngsters from the club regularly take part in the ADAC Hessen Championship (Central Region). "This year, four of our young drivers will probably be able to compete for the championship," says Youth Director Bernd Garten happily. But this requires a lot of training. From the end of March to the end of October, the youngsters can therefore be found every Saturday in the car park of the gymnasium in Pohlheim-Holzheim. A cone course is set up and off they go. "That's not unusual," explains Lars Garten, 1st Chairman of AMSC Pohlheim. "There are no closed-off tracks for kart slalom races, they always take place in public places. It goes without saying that we comply with the ADAC safety standards. And the new tyres definitely provide the necessary grip," he adds with a grin.
On Tuesday, 30 July, SWG sponsor Daniel Puschner handed over the cheque for the four new sets of tyres to 1st Chairman Lars Garten and Youth Director Bernd Garten. Bernd Garten praised SWG's commitment: "Our heartfelt thanks go to Stadtwerke Giessen, who are supporting our club's talented youngsters with their donation."
