Two young and committed artists, lots of colour in spray cans and creativity - and an inconspicuous transformer station becomes a real eye-catcher. The two graffiti sprayers from Giessen and Pohlheim, Tim Warkentien and Marc Cornelius, have given a transformer station belonging to Stadtwerke Giessen AG (SWG) a new coat of paint. The work of art can be admired in Konrad-Adenauer-Straße in Pohlheim.
Yesterday, the graffiti artists proudly presented the masterpiece to Frank Rompf, Head of Power Supply Systems at SWG. In addition to the two artists' names, the colourful motif shows a light bulb and an electricity plug. The two sprayers used these symbols to symbolise energy and electricity, in keeping with the motto of Stadtwerke Gießen: Your life - our energy.
The creative artists have been dedicating themselves to the creative and modern art form of wall painting for five years. Far removed from general graffiti, the two show that graffiti can definitely be art.
Tim Warkentien and Marc Cornelius also wanted to prove this on an SWG transformer station. The graffiti sprayers presented the Giessen energy and water supplier with the idea of painting and the motif for their project. After consultation with the municipal utilities, the sprayers set to work.
It took the artists a total of nine hours to create the new design for the transformer station. The artistic endeavour was well worth it. After all, the atmosphere of residential areas is not only characterised by houses or trees, but also by other things such as transformer stations.
We will certainly be seeing more of the graffiti sprayers in the future.
Stadtwerke supports the project of the two Pohlheim residents and financed the spray cans worth 240 euros.
