3Steps - Sprayers from Giessen and Darmstadt

Young and committed artists, lots of colour in spray cans and creativity - and a bland grid station becomes a real eye-catcher. The three contemporary graffiti artists from Three Steps Ahead, also known as 3Steps, have given the transformer station of Stadtwerke Gießen AG (SWG) a remarkable coat of paint. The finished work of art can be admired in the centre of Rivers Automeile. Last week, the artists SiveOne, Nova and Mr Flash proudly presented the masterpiece to Frank Rompf, head of SWG's electricity systems engineering department.

The new outfit of the station
The result: a fascinating collage that depicts the topic of natural gas as a fuel in sections. The viewer sees hot air balloons, naturally fuelled by gas, flying over the countryside of Hesse.

This motif embodies the nature-friendliness and freedom associated with refuelling with natural gas. The balloons form the bridge from the element to the fuel. The next motif shows a woman filling up her car with natural gas at a petrol pump. The artists also presented two winter sports enthusiasts having a speedball fight in the Hessian low mountain range - in the background: their natural gas vehicle. The design is rounded off by a radiant girl who invites the viewer to fill up with natural gas. With this work of art, the artists once again symbolise the Stadtwerke's motto: Your life - our energy. After just 4 days, the almost 40 square metre surface of the network station had been given a new outfit.

Three Steps Ahead
The three artists SiveOne (Kai Krieger), Nova (Uwe Krieger) and Flash (Joachim Pitt) from Giessen and Darmstadt have been developing their artistic skills together since 1998. Growing up in Giessen an der Lahn, the three attended the same school and quickly discovered their passion for "art and large-format design". In 2001, the three exhibited their work for the first time in the town hall of Linden. Since then, numerous works have followed in the Giessen and Wetzlar area. Since then, the artists have designed facades and walls for numerous companies throughout Germany, as well as fulfilling private requests. Far removed from general graffiti, 3Steps shows that graffiti can indeed be a creative and modern art form of wall design. The façade designers presented their concept and motifs for their project to the Giessen-based energy and water supplier in advance. The customer is at the centre of 3Steps' work. After consultation with the municipal utilities, the sprayers set to work. With great attention to detail and precision, the artists began the new paint job.
