Everyone wants to grow old with dignity. Haus Auengarten in Lahnau offers care within the home community. An exciting concept that Stadtwerke Gießen is supporting with a donation.

Living in a residential community and mastering the tasks of everyday life in a familiar atmosphere - this is how more and more people imagine their lives in old age. This is exactly what Haus Auengarten in Lahnau offers with 78 places divided into six shared flats. The BeneVit house-sharing concept provides for elderly people in need of care to live together and support each other. They are also provided with domestic help and carers. Evi Will, who has worked in customer services at Stadtwerke Gießen (SWG) since 1996, was also impressed when she visited the home for the first time as part of a community meeting. "I want to live like this when I'm old," she says. "Cooking together or doing small jobs around the house - I like that. It makes you feel needed and keeps you active."
So it was only natural to suggest this unusual project for one of the 75 good deeds. With success: Stadtwerke is supporting the care home with a donation for the outdoor area. "We want to use the money to purchase seating for our garden," explains Ute Großmann, head of the facility. But Evi Will also wanted to do something herself. The SWG sponsor from Waldgirmes has been singing since she was six years old: first in the children's choir, then in the school choir. She is currently active in the Staufenberg choir Cantiamo. She has also been singing solo since 1999 and sings at family celebrations. So her suggestion was an obvious one. "I will sing for the visitors to the house," she announced. No sooner said than done. Her colleague of many years, Armin Plewa-Moormann, accompanied her on the keyboard. Together with the residents, she sang old folk songs and also performed a few solo pieces.
The musical event took place on Saturday 3 August as part of the cheque handover ceremony. Ute Großmann and Miriam Steinert, head of the care team, accepted the donation cheque from Evi Will. "We also see the donation from Stadtwerke Gießen as recognition of our care concept," emphasises Ute Großmann. "And of course we are particularly proud of that."
