Where does our drinking water actually come from and how does it get into every household? The answers to these questions were given to 418 boys and girls from 19 municipalities in the district of Giessen at the holiday play event on the premises of the waterworks of Stadtwerke Giessen (SWG) in Queckborn. Here they learnt all the important facts about the number one foodstuff in a fun way.
A film first explained to the children how important drinking water is for people and what role SWG plays in providing it. Particularly interesting for the little ones: they learned how much water they and their families use every day when showering, bathing, washing their hands and flushing the toilet - more than 60 litres.
Sporting challenge
The next event was a sporting challenge - the Water Olympics on the grounds of the waterworks. The girls and boys competed against each other in three disciplines. The "Save the fish" game, for example, was all about how to prevent water pollution. In the last game, the motto was: don't lose a drop. The children transported water over several obstacles on a course.
At the end, a small gift was waiting for everyone - an all-round successful day at the Queckborn waterworks for every child.
