Giessen's drinking water is once again bacteriologically safe. This was announced by Stadtwerke Gießen AG (SWG) on the basis of the latest water sample results.
"There are no more E. coli bacteria in the water samples that were taken last Sunday and Monday. For our customers in Giessen, in the centre of Grünberg and in the Grünberg districts of Queckborn, Harbach and Göbelnrod, this means the all-clear - they no longer need to boil their drinking water before use," explains Matthias Acker, deputy company spokesman for SWG.
Final sample results are still pending for Fernwald-Annerod. The water must still be boiled here. The municipality of Fernwald will inform the population in Annerod as soon as possible when the water there no longer needs to be boiled.
In spite of the perfect sample results in Gießen and Grünberg, Stadtwerke Gießen AG will continue to chlorinate the water for a few more days as a precautionary measure. SWG will inform its customers as soon as chlorination is discontinued.
The cause of the contamination will keep Stadtwerke Gießen AG busy for some time to come: It is not yet known how the germs got into the drinking water.
