When the lights go on in the Protestant church in Hattenrod, the electricity meter will turn more slowly in future than it did a few days ago. Energy-saving light bulbs have been used for the interior lighting since last Wednesday. Together with Stadtwerke Gießen, the parish has replaced more than 100 light bulbs with the efficient light sources. "We are pleased to be able to reduce our energy costs in this very simple way. What's more, everyone can see for themselves that modern energy-saving light bulbs create a pleasant, warm atmosphere - unlike what some had expected," explained vicar Christine Müller. Together with sexton Annelise Becker, the vicar thanked Stadtwerke Giessen for their support. The company not only helped with the exchange, but also donated the money to buy the new lamps.
Dennis Adams came up with the idea during a visit to the church - his wife is the organist in the parish. "I took the trouble to count the lamps once and came up with 107. I immediately realised that a lot could be saved with new light sources," said the SWG employee from SWG's business customer sales department. He then suggested changing the bulbs as one of the "75 good deeds" that SWG is doing throughout the region in its anniversary year. On Wednesday, 13 March, he personally helped to screw the new energy-saving models into the sockets and presented a symbolic donation cheque to pastor Christine Müller and sexton Annelise Becker.
