Grünberg. An exhibition in Grünberg town hall from 31 October to 25 November is dedicated entirely to the topic of saving energy in the home. The organisers are the town of Grünberg and Stadtwerke Gießen. On 24 November, there will also be an energy-saving consultation hour with SWG energy expert Martin Lorenz, who will be available to answer any questions citizens may have. The exhibition concept was presented to the public at a press event on 1 November by Grünberg's mayor Frank Ide, the town's environmental officer Emma Maier and a representative of Stadtwerke Gießen.
Unnecessary costs are a burden on the household budget
The motivation for the exhibition and the energy-saving consultation hour is the rising expenditure on energy in households in recent years, although there are numerous opportunities to make savings here in particular. Michael Rösner, Head of Private and Commercial Customer Sales at Stadtwerke, put it in a nutshell: in theory, it is not really "witchcraft to reduce your own energy costs", but in practice it is almost impossible if the necessary background information or even awareness of energy and its consumption is lacking.
SWG has been organising energy consultations for its customers at its infoCentre on Giessen's market square for years. According to Michael Rösner, demand is high and the need for advice is evident time and time again.
"The stumbling block to a noticeable reduction in household energy costs is often simply a lack of expertise in this area," said Michael Rösner, summarising the basic problem that the campaign aims to tackle. For example, people often completely misjudge where the most energy is consumed in the household and where energy-saving measures should be implemented first.
The upcoming exhibition will focus on the topics of energy advice from SWG, energy certificates, heating checks, electricity savings checks and particularly economical household appliances. In addition, visitors can borrow electricity meters free of charge. After the end of the exhibition, Emma Maier will be on hand to help citizens in Grünberg as an environmental officer and expert advisor on energy saving.
