The Gießener Tafel has been distributing food to people in need in Leimenkauter Weg in Gießen since 2005. Since then, four more locations have been added in neighbouring communities and the number of households using the service provided by the Diakonisches Werk has risen steadily. "There are now around 1,650 people, including just over 400 children," explains Holger Claes, head of the facility, and emphasises: "The numerous volunteers - currently 285 - and the many donations of food, goods and money make it possible to help families who are dependent on every cent. We are therefore delighted with the commitment of Stadtwerke Gießen (SWG)."
To help financially weak households save energy, SWG donated 280 energy-saving boxes to the Gießener Tafel food bank, which distributes them to families in need. On Monday, 16 July, Michael Rösner, Head of Private and Commercial Customer Sales at Stadtwerke Gießen, and Ulli Boos, Head of Marketing at Stadtwerke Gießen, presented the boxes to Holger Claes, Helmut Magel, Anna Gross and Nadine Tauchen from the Gießener Tafel. Each box contains four different, high-quality energy-saving light bulbs, which reduce consumption by up to 40 per cent compared to a conventional 60-watt light bulb.
"Many families can't afford the more economical bulbs and have to fall back on cheaper light bulbs," explains Michael Rösner. "With our donation, we want to make a contribution so that even financially weak households have the opportunity to use the more modern technology and thus reduce their electricity consumption a little."
