Costs for residential water meters fall

The natural gas and district heating prices of Stadtwerke Gießen AG (SWG), which were reduced in time for the start of the heating period, will remain in place beyond the turn of the year. After two price reductions in 2009, the 26,500 gas customers and 6,300 heating customers will therefore continue to benefit from the moderate price level in Giessen. SWG's electricity prices will also remain stable.

Gas and district heating prices remain stable, although the price level on the oil market has been rising moderately but steadily since early summer. "We are able to compensate for the slightly rising price level on the gas procurement market within the company over the winter months. We are pleased to be able to offer our customers stable prices over the turn of the year," says SWG CEO Manfred Siekmann.

SWG's electricity prices will also remain constant in January 2010. Although procurement prices on the electricity exchange have fallen, the levy under the Renewable Energy Sources Act (EEG) has risen from around 1.2 to 2.047 Ct/kWh net. This sharp rise and a further increase in grid utilisation fees in the course of this year will cancel out the purchasing advantages achieved.

Price reduction for residential water meters
SWG water customers with more than one residential water meter in their home can be pleased. Previously, they paid the basic price of EUR 42 per year gross for each meter installed. From 2010, this price will only apply to the first residential water meter; each additional meter will then only cost EUR 24/year gross. An example household with a water consumption of 155 m³ per year and two installed residential water meters will therefore pay EUR 18/year gross or 4.48% less.
