Electricity from your own roof

On 30 September, Stadtwerke Gießen will be providing information on private photovoltaic systems as part of its "Energy Knowledge on Tuesday" lecture series at 5.30 pm.

Despite a number of legal changes, having your own photovoltaic system remains a good investment in many cases. "In addition to a suitable roof surface, all you really need is the ability to use a large proportion of the solar-generated electricity yourself," reveals Moritz Müller, energy consultant at Stadtwerke Gießen (SWG). The lecture "Photovoltaics - Energy from the sun" from the "Energy knowledge on Tuesday" series deals precisely with these relationships. In fact, an energy consultant from SWG explains what interested parties should look out for when purchasing their own PV system. Of course, the lecture also sheds light on the changes brought about by the Solar Peak Act, which came into force at the end of February.

Sometimes more is simply more

The negative effects of the Solar Peak Act on the attractiveness of PV systems are manageable. For example, the maximum permissible feed-in power is limited and the remuneration for electricity fed into the grid is suspended in the event of negative exchange prices. In short, the feed-in of solar power from private systems is becoming increasingly unattractive. Conversely, this means that self-consumption is more important than ever when it comes to calculating the profitability of a photovoltaic system. This means two things: the more self-produced electricity the operators of PV systems use directly on site, the faster the investment is amortised. And it often makes sense to plan larger systems, spend a little more money and have an electricity storage system installed. This noticeably increases self-consumption. "An electricity storage system makes it possible to store electrical energy generated during the day and only use it in the evening," says Moritz Müller, explaining the idea behind it. Naturally, there are plenty of illustrative examples in the presentation that make the complex subject matter understandable even for laypeople.

In addition to the technical and economic aspects, the SWG energy expert will of course also discuss the e-revolution. The SWG product family offers the right module for all wishes and applications - from the e-roof, the PV system itself, to the e-storage system and the e-charging station. This makes the offer a very convenient way to own a PV system.

Energy knowledge online

All lectures in the "Energy Knowledge on Tuesday" series will take place online. Anyone who would like to listen to the lecture "Photovoltaics - energy from the sun" on 30 September at 5.30 pm can register at energieberatung@stadtwerke-giessen.de by 28 September. SWG will send out a participation link in good time. Of course, this digital format also offers enough space for questions, which the expert will answer after his presentation.
