Giessen municipal utilities promote natural gas refuelling

Natural gas as a fuel is becoming increasingly popular. The number of registered natural gas vehicles is also increasing in the district of Giessen and the surrounding districts. The Claus-Peter Schneider driving school in Nidda and Hungen is now setting a good example and is also focussing on environmentally friendly natural gas as a fuel. Last Thursday, driving instructor Claus-Peter Schneider (owner of Schneider Driving School) received a fuel card for his natural gas-powered driving school car - a Mercedes B-Class. The driver of the new natural gas vehicle is taking advantage of the Stadtwerke Gießen AG (SWG) subsidy programme and saving money.

Michael Rösner, Sales Manager Private and Commercial Customers, together with Meike Kwiatkowski (Customer Services employee), presented the future natural gas driver with his fuel card.

Meike Kwiatkowski focussed on natural gas cars for driving schools as part of her final project for her training as an industrial clerk. The C.-P. Schneider driving school is just one example of how the trainee has achieved her goal. Other driving schools are sure to follow this trend.

Anyone registering a new natural gas series vehicle can fill up at the Aral petrol station at Marburger Straße 229 in Giessen and receive a 50 percent discount on the current natural gas price. Instead of 77.9 cents (as of 25 June), a kilogramme of natural gas will then only cost 38.9 cents. A glance at the price board will make every natural gas driver happy - and the actual cost savings when refuelling are greater than the price board suggests. This is because one kilo of natural gas has the same energy content as around 1.5 litres of petrol. This means that the bottom line is that the fuel costs are about half those of a petrol car.

The driving instructor is absolutely convinced of natural gas as a fuel. For Claus-Peter Schneider, it is not only the unrivalled low price, but also the environmental benefits that favour natural gas as a fuel. Petrol and diesel are becoming more and more expensive. This makes it worthwhile for car drivers to consider an alternative fuel. And that alternative is natural gas.

The advantages of natural gas vehicles - they are: very economical, particularly environmentally friendly and tax-privileged until 2018.

Claus-Peter Schneider expects to cover around 60,000 kilometres a year in his Mercedes. In future, the Mercedes B-Class will be in the service of the Schneider driving school and will be on the roads in Hesse every day.
