Last week, Stadtwerke Gießen AG (SWG) used an information event to present new technical connection conditions (TAB) to installation companies. The Giessen-based energy and water supplier focussed on hygienically safe drinking water. After all, the quality of drinking water is an essential prerequisite for the well-being and health of the population. The head of meter management at SWG, Wolfgang Döring, welcomed the participants from the municipal utilities' contract installation companies.
Drinking water is quality of life
The fact that water supply companies and installation companies must fulfil high standards for a safe drinking water supply is already demonstrated by the technical connection conditions. "Today, modern water extraction and treatment systems are the norm. But the usual high standard can only be maintained in close cooperation with regular, professional analyses of the water by independent institutions. That's why you should never rest on your laurels," explained guest speaker Klaus-Dieter Jost from Geberit Vertriebs GmbH in Pfullendorf.
Klaus-Dieter Jost's presentation focussed on the use of materials in installations and the hygiene regulations to be observed. For new installations, the risk of contamination can be significantly minimised by selecting the materials and careful installation, taking all hygiene requirements into account. Existing installation systems that are modified or extended should either be disinfected or restored to a hygienically perfect condition by means of renovation work in order to avoid health risks.
150 years of gas supply
Due to the anniversary "150 years of gas supply in Giessen", which Stadtwerke Giessen is celebrating this year, the event also focussed on gas supply. Those who followed the presentation by Ina Weller, Head of Marketing and Company Spokesperson at SWG, learnt a lot about the 150-year history of gas supply in Giessen. Ina Weller also provided information about the expansion of the supply network, the subsidy programmes offered by SWG in the anniversary year and, of course, the installation of Giessen's first natural gas pump at the Aral petrol station in Marburger Strasse 229.
Conversion ofthe Queckborn waterworks
Before the general discussion round began and the speakers were available to answer questions, graduate engineer Peter Keller, Head of Gas and Water Systems Engineering at SWG, informed the guests about the conversion and the status of the construction phase of the Queckborn waterworks.
