The Stadtwerke Gießen dragon boat team was once again able to demonstrate its skills in front of a home crowd. At the Giessen Dragon Boat Cup, the team held its own against strong competitors and took seventh place.

It's hard to believe that this team only trains together once a week. This is because the Stadtwerke Gießen (SWG) company dragon boat team, also known as the "SWG-Rohrleger", can easily keep up with professional sports teams. The men and women proved this once again at the local Dragon Boat Cup on 16 August in Giessen: With a very good performance, they achieved seventh place in the Sport Cup ranking - relegating the teams from Marburg and Butzbach to eighth and ninth place.
A total of 29 teams competed in Giessen: amateurs, professionals and company sports groups. The first three timed heats decided who was allowed to compete in which category in the final. The "SWG-Rohrleger" finished in ninth place, placing them in the highest category of professional sports teams. "I'm more than satisfied with the team's performance," said a delighted team captain Oliver Lassika. "But we won't be resting on our laurels - we're already training for the next races at the beginning of October." That's when the "SWG-Rohrleger" will be competing in the 200 and 500 metre races on the Olympic regatta course in Munich.
