At the municipal daycare centre "Am Eichelbaum" in Giessen-Wieseck, the very little ones now have a great, permanent bedroom and the older children have plenty of space to run around unhindered. Background: Stadtwerke Gießen (SWG) is donating a garden shed to the daycare centre in its anniversary year. Ute Oßwald from the district heating department at SWG came up with the idea: her son Paul has been attending the daycare centre for almost a year and she found out that there was an acute shortage of space. She then suggested the daycare centre for one of the 75 good deeds. "As a mum of three children, I know that small children need lots of rest breaks," says the SWG sponsor. "That's why a separate room like this in the daycare centre is particularly important."
Although there was a quiet room for the children in the toddler group, this previously had to be used to store pushchairs, bobby cars and sand toys. From midday, the one to three-year-olds could then sleep in their beds in the gym. However, they had to clear it out again afterwards so that the older children could also have their nap. It was essential to have a quiet room for the little ones in between. The solution: a garden shed with space for buggies and bobby cars. The daycare centre has thus reclaimed the previously converted room and the one to three-year-olds now have a permanent place to sleep.
The head of the "Am Eichelbaum" centre, Susanne Colvin, is delighted with SWG's support: "Thanks to the generous donation from Stadtwerke, our children can now enjoy greater freedom again."
At the beginning of October, eager fathers erected the garden shed behind the daycare centre building after the Giessen city gardening department had poured a base of gravel and laid floor slabs. The parents also took care of the painting.
The symbolic handover of the cheque took place on 28 October at the "Am Eichelbaum" daycare centre: Ute Oßwald handed over the cheque to Susanne Colvin, the head of the facility.
