Stadtwerke Gießen is providing financial support to the Central Hesse DRK rescue service to equip the new police station in Rabenau-Londorf - the sixth highlight of the 75 good deeds in the anniversary year. During the Car Free Sunday in the Lumda Valley on 25 August, anyone could help raise the sum on a donation bike.

The rescue service of the German Red Cross (DRK) in Central Hesse is called out on more than 50,000 missions a year. In order to be able to provide help as quickly as possible, short distances are essential for the rescuers. This is why there are 19 rescue centres in the districts of Giessen and Marburg-Biedenkopf alone, which are manned around the clock. However, as many of these stations no longer meet the standards of today's emergency medicine, the DRK has begun to remodel and rebuild buildings. When choosing locations, particular attention is paid to good transport links and infrastructure: short distances between the recreation room and the vehicle hall are just as important for paramedics as short distances to main roads and motorways. In Rabenau-Londorf, the rescue service started building a new station last year, which is within sight of the old railway station building. The rescue station had been housed there since 1991. The advantages of the new building: the paramedics can access the vehicle hall directly from the ground-floor recreation rooms. The building is also centrally located in the community and fulfils the requirements of modern emergency care.
For Thomas Rabenau from the Energy and Water Networks department at Stadtwerke Gießen (SWG), it was an obvious choice to nominate the Londorf rescue service for one of the 75 good deeds in the anniversary year: "I live not far from the rescue station myself." And he adds: "I think it's very good that the rescuers can also travel quickly from here to the neighbouring towns. As a new building involves a lot of investment, the rescue service is happy to receive any support."

2000 euros for the Londorf station
And all visitors to the Car Free Sunday in the Lumda Valley on 25 August were able to make a contribution to this cause: at the SWG stand in the castle garden in Rabenau-Londorf, hobby cyclists pedalled hard, as SWG donated 7.50 euros to the DRK Rettungsdienst Mittelhessen for every kilometre ridden. Stadtwerke then rounded up the donation to 2,000 euros. The money will be used by the DRK Rettungsdienst Mittelhessen to equip the rescue centre in Rabenau-Londorf.
At the end of the event, Thomas Rabenau presented a symbolic donation cheque to Markus Müller, Managing Director of DRK Rettungsdienst Mittelhessen, and Frank Rudolph, Area Manager for Giessen-Land. "We would like to add to the equipment at our new rescue centre in Rabenau-Londorf in order to provide our employees with the best possible working conditions. That's why we are particularly pleased about the generous donation from SWG," Markus Müller and Frank Rudolph agree.
