Combined heat and power plant plus local heating network equals efficient heat supply. Builders in the "Auf der Bölz" development area in Heuchelheim can count on this formula. Stadtwerke Gießen and the municipality of Heuchelheim provided information about the benefits of the modern heating solution at the open day on the construction site last Saturday.

Efficient, climate-friendly and cost-effective - a modern heating supply should have all of these attributes if possible. But how can all three advantages be combined? With the help of a combination of a local heating network and a combined heat and power unit (CHP), for example. In future, prospective builders in the "Auf der Bölz" development area in Heuchelheim will also be able to rely on this solution. Stadtwerke Gießen (SWG) and the municipality of Heuchelheim informed all interested parties about how the technology works and how homeowners will benefit at the open construction site day on 8 October.
"Today, we are offering a look behind the scenes and showing how centrally generated heat differs significantly from in-house heating from an ecological and economic perspective," revealed Hans-Peter Schön from SWG.

Unique insights
Visitors to the open day were able to see for themselves how a local heating network is constructed. The thickly insulated pipes are still lying in open trenches. "In principle, we make it possible for everyone to connect via the pipe system - completely uncomplicated and fast. A space-saving transfer station in the house is sufficient," explained Hans-Peter Schön during a tour of the site. In addition, there is no need for regular maintenance work on a boiler or the costs of a chimney sweep. Owners also automatically fulfil the obligation under the Renewable Energies Heat Act to cover part of their energy requirements from renewable sources. Willi Schwarz from SWG's Energy Services department explained the sustainable generation of energy by the CHP unit to interested parties. During a guided tour, the expert explained the functional principle of combined heat and power generation and was available to answer questions.

The experts at the SWG customer centre on Marktplatz can answer questions about climate-friendly energy supply via local and district heating - in person on site or by telephone. Opening hours: Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., telephone 0800 23 02 100
