For the city festival weekend from 14 to 16 August, Stadtwerke Gießen has once again set up a special timetable for bus services. On Friday and Saturday, some routes will run longer than usual.
The programme for the Giessen City Festival has been finalised and anticipation is growing for highlights such as the Tom Pfeiffer Band. Tens of thousands of visitors will once again be celebrating in front of the stages and on the streets - on Friday and Saturday until late in the evening. "The majority of people make their way home when the lights go out on the stages, or even much later. This year, our buses will once again be running longer than usual for all of them," explains Anne Müller-Kreutz, Head of Local Transport Services at Stadtwerke Gießen (SWG).
SWG has set up a special timetable for some routes from 23:30 - in each case from the Marktplatz stop. Buses on line 1 to Lützellinden and Rödgen, line 2 to Eichendorffring, line 3 to Friedhof and Wartweg, line 5 to Wieseck and buses on line 7 to Philosophenwald will depart from there at 00:30 and 01:00 in the morning. Line 801 runs to Weststadt and Rathenaustraße. Passengers travelling to Petersweiher and Sandfeld and in the direction of Evangelisches Krankenhaus can take a scheduled taxi. Departure is also at the Giessen market square. The buses on route 24 to Heuchelheim and Kinzenbach run on Friday at 00:30 and 01:00 and on Saturday at 00:26 and 01:18 from the market square.
Venus and Saturn for night owls
As usual, the free "Venus" and "Saturn" city buses also run from 00:30 to 04:30 on Friday and Saturday nights. The Venus line stops at the railway station and runs between the north and west of the city, including Wieseck. The Saturn night bus line travels to the south and east of Giessen as well as to Kleinlinden. Both lines start at the Berliner Platz stop. Passengers can reach the districts of Rödgen, Allendorf and Lützellinden by connecting taxi. The connecting taxi to Rödgen departs from the Waldstadion stop - to Allendorf and Lützellinden from the Waldweide stop.
Anne Müller-Kreutz also points out: "During the day, visitors to the festival can easily get into the city by public transport and save themselves the extremely tedious search for a parking space this weekend. A group day ticket for up to five people is particularly good value. This costs 7.50 euros."
Run'n Roll for Help: Special timetable on Sunday
Due to the Giessen city run "Run'n Roll for Help" on 16 August, line 5 in the direction of the train station and line 12 to Berliner Platz will run on a diversion route from midday until around 20:00. Buses on line 5 will run in the direction of the railway station from the Landgericht stop via Moltkestraße and Grünberger Straße to Berliner Platz. Instead of the Behördenzentrum stop, they will stop at Berliner Platz. Line 12 will take an alternative route from the Steinstraße stop via Nordanlage and Marktplatz to Berliner Platz. The Landgericht stop will be cancelled. Buses on lines 5 and 12 in the direction of Wieseck or Sandfeldschule will run on the usual route.
