Stadtwerke Gießen is warning against dubious electricity traders who are targeting customers with unsolicited calls.
Dodgy telephone scammers are currently trying to exploit the tense price situation on the energy market. Stadtwerke Gießen (SWG) learnt from an affected customer how the new scam works: In the specific case, a caller contacted the telephone number 030 166359919 and pretended to be active on behalf of Stadtwerke. He did not answer the question "For which municipal utility?". Instead, he began his sales pitch by claiming that the price guarantee had expired and that his supposed victim had to act now. Without mentioning exactly which tariffs were involved, of course. When the customer clearly explained that she was not interested in telephone advertising, the caller threatened that she would have to expect a high additional payment.
An unfortunately familiar phenomenon
"It was only a matter of time before the telephone pushers discovered the current prices as an argument for their machinations," explains Ulli Boos, Head of Marketing & Communication at SWG, adding: "As usual in these cases, we advise you to end such a call as quickly as possible and simply hang up." In fact, these calls are always an attempt to take unsettled citizens by surprise and sell them a contract they don't want.
SWG is asking its customers for support. "Please let us know if you receive such calls - with additional information such as the telephone number or procedure," summarises Ulli Boos. SWG can use this information to warn people in the region about these fraudulent schemes.
