Once again, Stadtwerke Gießen is warning against suspected telephone fraudsters. They pretend to be calling to collect outstanding debts.
The scams used by dodgy characters to try and scam money are becoming increasingly brazen: the suspected fraudsters are currently calling people living in the region and asking them to pay alleged debts. And all in the name of Stadtwerke Gießen (SWG).
"Not a word of this is true," explains Ulli Boos, Head of Marketing & Private Customer Sales at SWG. Because the fact is: SWG would not deal with such delicate issues over the phone and certainly not via third parties.
Ulli Boos therefore advises caution: "Never comply with such requests and, moreover, do not disclose any personal data over the phone." Although this does not protect you from unpleasant calls, it does ensure that they remain without consequences. Simply ending the call by hanging up without giving a reason is an effective way of avoiding being drawn into a conversation in the first place.
Customers who receive such calls can help to put a stop to the crooks. By making a note of the number from which the call was made and sending it to SWG. If possible, with a brief description of the call - if it was not terminated prematurely. "We collect all this information and pass it on to the authorities," adds Ulli Boos.
