Feigning false facts in order to generate pressure - this is a scam often used by so-called pressure groups in their attempts to solicit customers on the phone or at their front door. Apparently this is currently happening again in Giessen, as a report from a customer of Stadtwerke Giessen (SWG) suggests. A few days ago, a young man on behalf of a large German energy company tried to convince him to change his electricity supplier. A new contract was necessary because SWG would soon cease supplying electricity. "A claim that is completely made up out of thin air and borders on fraud," explains Ulli Boos, Head of Marketing at Stadtwerke Gießen.
The unsettled customer signed the contract anyway - but checked with SWG a short time later to see if the claim was true. "We advised the customer to cancel the contract immediately and offered him help with this step," explains Ulli Boos and advises all those affected: "Anyone who has also been put under pressure and deceived in a similar way should cancel the contract quickly and get in touch with us. We advise everyone else not to give out any personal details at the front door or over the phone if they are being lured with similar tricks."

Anyone who also suspects fraud should contact SWG's customer service immediately. The employees can be reached on the service number 0800 23 02 100 (free of charge from the German landline network and all German mobile phone networks) from Monday to Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
