Some low-cost electricity providers obviously do not shy away from tricks and lies in order to win new customers. At least that's what several examples from the district of Giessen suggest. Over the past weeks and months, some customers of Stadtwerke Giessen (SWG) have received advertising calls trying to persuade them to switch electricity provider - but not with honest arguments and fair means. In order to gain trust, the callers often pretended to be employees of Stadtwerke Giessen or claimed that their client was co-operating with SWG. In the case of one customer from Lollar, this trick worked. She passed on her bank details.
"We have the account and customer details ourselves, so we wouldn't ask for them. Caution is advised at the latest when these questions arise," explains Ina Weller, company spokesperson for SWG. She therefore warns against disclosing personal data and information over the phone or even concluding contracts. Ina Weller also advises: "If you suspect that something is wrong, customers should contact our employees immediately. They can help in such cases and give tips on what to do."
SWG customer service staff can be reached on the free service number 0800 23 02 100 from Monday to Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
