Live music, culture and plenty of treats: As always, the Giessen city festival offers a colourful programme. You can get home comfortably by bus. Stadtwerke Giessen has set up a special timetable for the period from 16 to 18 August, with services running well into the night.
Let's go to the Giessen city festival! There will be celebrations from 16 to 18 August. Tens of thousands of people flock to the city centre, dance to open-air music, experience an exciting cultural programme, enjoy food and drink and cheer on the athletes at their competitions. Stadtwerke Gießen (SWG) will ensure a comfortable journey home at a late hour and will once again be organising a special bus service this year. On the festival weekend, the buses will run from Friday to Saturday and from Saturday to Sunday until late into the night. Several lines will start at the Marktplatz bus stop at 00:30 and 01:00, including bus line 1 to Lützellinden and Rödgen; line 2 to Eichendorffring; line 3 to Friedhof and Schwarzacker; line 5 to Wieseck and line 7 to Philosophenwald and Evangelisches Krankenhaus. Passengers travelling to Weststadt can take line 800, while those who need to get to Rathenaustraße, Petersweiher or Sandfeld can simply take the regular taxi service. SWG uses spacious articulated buses on lines 1, 2 and 5 to ensure that the many passengers have enough space. Please note: The operator of route 24, ESE Verkehrsgesellschaft in Staufenberg, has announced that for the first time this year there will be no additional journeys on route 24 to Heuchelheim and Kinzenbach at 00:30 and 01:00.
Venus and Saturn night buses for free
The free Venus and Saturn night buses start at Berliner Platz during the festival weekend. They run on Friday and Saturday nights from 00:30 to 04:30. The Saturn line travels to the south and east of the city, stopping in Kleinlinden. And the Venus line takes passengers to the railway station and to the north and west of Giessen as far as Wieseck. If you want to continue to Rödgen, Allendorf and Lützellinden, take a connecting taxi. This runs from the Waldstadion stop to Rödgen and from the Waldweide stop in the direction of Allendorf and Lützellinden.
"Convenient and inexpensive - those who plan their routes by bus save time and nerves on the festival weekend and get safely to the city centre and back home again," says Anne Müller-Kreutz, Head of Local Transport Services at SWG, describing the advantages of local public transport. If you want to travel to the city festival particularly cheaply, take friends and family with you: A group day ticket for up to five people costs just 7.80 euros.
Run 'n' Roll for Help: Diversion on Sunday
Due to the Giessen city run "Run 'n' Roll for Help" on 18 August, line 5 in the direction of the railway station and line 12 to Berliner Platz will be running on a diversion route between around 11:00 and 20:00. The buses on route 5 in the direction of the railway station will run from the Landgericht stop via Moltkestraße and Grünberger Straße. They will stop at Berliner Platz instead of at the Behördenzentrum.
From the Landgericht stop, route 12 will take an alternative route via Moltkestraße, Grünberger Straße, Ludwigstraße and Bismarckstraße to the Berliner Platz stop. Buses on lines 5 and 12 in the direction of Wieseck or Sandfeldschule will follow the usual route.
