Although most pupils are still learning from home, Giessen's city buses will be running according to the normal timetable again from 3 May. However, it is now compulsory to wear an FFP2 mask when travelling by bus.
After three weeks of a corona-related holiday timetable for the city buses, Stadtwerke Giessen is taking a step towards normality. From Monday, 3 May 2021, all routes will run according to the regular timetable again. This means that the morning reinforcement journeys on school days printed in the posted timetables and in the timetable book will also take place as usual.
Since the middle of last week, however, a new regulation has been in force regarding the obligation to wear masks. The new Infection Protection Act stipulates that passengers at bus stops and on buses must wear protective masks that meet the FFP2 standard. This means that models with the KN95 or N95 standards are also permitted. The ticket inspection staff are currently not only checking tickets, but also providing information about the new regulations regarding protective masks on the bus.
Important to know: both drivers and ticket inspectors are exempt from the FFP2 mask requirement. Because they carry out their work on the bus, the Occupational Health and Safety Act applies. According to this law, it is not reasonable to have to wear such masks for an entire shift. After all, they significantly restrict breathing. Consequently, ticket inspectors are likely to be seen wearing conventional surgical masks time and time again. In fact, ticket inspectors are completely exempt from the obligation to wear masks.
Information on the current timetable can be found at www.rmv.de or at www.swg-verkehr.de.
