Due to the upcoming easing of contact restrictions, Stadtwerke Gießen is adapting its local transport services, which have been reduced since mid-March, to the increasing demand. The regular timetable will apply again from 18 May.
When the German government, in consultation with the state premiers, announced the lockdown in mid-March, it was clear that significantly fewer people were using public transport. Stadtwerke Gießen (SWG) responded to this by reducing the number of journeys. Since school resumed on 27 April, Giessen's city buses have been running more frequently again. Now things are about to return to normal: from next Monday, 18 May, the buses will run according to the regular timetable again.
However, two restrictions will continue to apply for the time being: the Venus and Saturn night buses will remain in the depot, as will the reinforcement buses that SWG usually operates during the lecture period at the University and the Technical University of Central Hesse. SWG is currently in close contact with the teaching institutes in order to clarify whether courses will start as planned on 2 June with face-to-face lectures. If this is the case, SWG will of course react immediately and expand its bus services as usual.
Further information on the current timetables can be found at www.rmv.de or in the RMV app.
The service team at the mobility centre in the SWG customer centre is also available again for personal or telephone advice on 0641-708-1400 from Monday to Friday from 10 am to 4 pm.
