Visitors to the Giessen City Festival can once again expect a spectacular programme this year: open-air music, culture and plenty of culinary delights. Stadtwerke Giessen will make sure you get home in comfort. From 19 to 21 August, there will be a special timetable and buses will be running late into the night.

Giessen. It's that time of year again on 19 August: Giessen city centre will be transformed into one big stage. Big names such as the Rodgau Monotones and the Heavytones rock the SWG stage on the church square and really heat up the visitors to the Giessen city festival. Tens of thousands of people enjoy the open-air music, the cultural programme and sporting competitions - and of course want to get home as comfortably as possible afterwards. This is why Stadtwerke Gießen (SWG) has once again organised a special bus service. On the occasion of the festival weekend, buses will be running from Friday to Saturday and from Saturday to Sunday, even late at night.
At 00:30 and 01:00 each day, several lines will depart from the Marktplatz bus stop. These include buses on line 1 to Lützellinden and Rödgen, line 2 to Eichendorffring, line 3 to Friedhof and Schwarzacker, line 5 to Wieseck and line 7 to Philosophenwald.
Line 801 takes passengers from Marktplatz to Weststadt and as far as Rathenaustraße. Passengers can take a scheduled taxi to Petersweiher and Sandfeld as well as in the direction of Evangelisches Krankenhaus. Please note: Line 24 to Heuchelheim and Kinzenbach departs on Saturday at 00:26 and 01:18 respectively. On Friday, buses in this direction leave at 00:30 and 01:00, just like the other buses.

Free night buses: Venus and Saturn
The free Venus and Saturn night buses depart from Berliner Platz during the festival weekend. They run from 00:30 to 04:30 on Friday and Saturday nights.
The Saturn line takes passengers to the south and east of the city and stops in Kleinlinden. The Venus line takes passengers to the railway station and to the north and west of Giessen. This also travels to Wieseck. The connecting taxi takes you to Rödgen, Allendorf and Lützellinden. In the direction of Rödgen, this departs from the Waldstadion stop - to Allendorf and Lützellinden from the Waldweide stop.
"The bus service saves time and nerves. It allows visitors to travel comfortably from A to B during the festival weekend. A group day ticket for up to five people is particularly good value: It costs 7.80 euros," says Anne Müller-Kreutz, Head of Local Transport Services at SWG, explaining the advantages of public transport. "It also saves you the hassle of searching for a parking space."

Run'n'Roll for Help: Special timetable on Sunday
Due to the Giessen city run "Run'n' Roll for Help" on 21 August, line 5 in the direction of the train station and line 12 to Berliner Platz will run on a diversion route from around 11:00 until around 20:00. The buses on line 5 in the direction of the railway station will run from the Landgericht stop via Moltkestraße and Grünberger Straße. Instead of the Behördenzentrum stop, they will stop at Berliner Platz.
Line 12 will resume its journey in the direction of Berliner Platz at the Steinstraße stop. The alternative route leads via Nordanlage and Marktplatz. The Landgericht stop is cancelled.
Buses on lines 5 and 12 in the direction of Wieseck or Sandfeldschule will run on the usual route.
Due to the event, the Stadttheater bus stop in the direction of Marktplatz will also be closed. Line 24 and, this year, buses on lines 3 and 13 will also be affected, as they will have to divert to the Stadttheater stop. The nearest bus stop for boarding and alighting is Marktplatz.
