Stadtwerke Gießen is expecting many passengers on Sunday and is deploying more spacious articulated buses in some cases - three additional coaches are available as a reserve.

Thousands of people will once again line the streets of Giessen city centre on Sunday, 10 February and celebrate the fifth season during the carnival parade. Between 13:30 and 17:30 there are therefore likely to be considerable disruptions to bus services. All city buses will not stop at the Marktplatz stop during this period and bus connections to the city centre will also be temporarily interrupted. "We expect many people to travel by bus to the city centre before the carnival hustle and bustle. That's why we are using spacious articulated buses on lines 1, 2 and 5," explained Anne Müller-Kreutz, Head of Local Transport Services at Stadtwerke Gießen (SWG). From 14:30, SWG will have three more buses in reserve, which they can deploy immediately if necessary.

Changes in detail
From 1.30 p.m. to around 4 p.m., there will be some interruptions to the routes of the city buses, and SWG will reroute some routes. The buses will be travelling to the following locations and stops.
Line 1: From Lützellinden via Allendorf and Kleinlinden the buses will run to the Bahnhof/Mathematikum stop, from Rödgen to the Waldstadion stop.
Line 3: From the Schwarzacker stop, buses will run to the Schiffenberger Weg stop and from the Friedhof stop via Ostanlage to the Berliner Platz stop.
Line 5: From the direction of Wieseck, the buses will travel via Nordanlage, Westanlage and Bahnhofstraße to the Bahnhof/Mathematikum stop.
Line 801 and 802: From Wettenberg, the trolleys run via the Weststadt, Nordanlage and Ostanlage stops to the Berliner Platz stop.
Line 12: From Sandfeldschule, the buses will travel via Ostanlage to Berliner Platz.
Line 11: From Wetzlar via Dutenhofen, Allendorf, Lützellinden and Kleinlinden, the buses will run to the Bahnhof/Mathematikum stop.
Line 24: From Wetzlar via Lahnau, Heuchelheim and via Westanlage and Bahnhofstraße, the buses run to the Bahnhof/Mathematikum stop.
Lines 2, 6 and 7 will stop running completely between around 13:30 and 16:00.

Journeys after the carnival parade
Following the carnival procession, buses will probably not be able to run via the Marktplatz stop until around 17:50 due to clearing up work. However, passengers travelling on lines 1, 2, 3, 6, 7, 12, 801, 802 and line 11 of the Wetzlar public transport company will be able to board the bus at the Berliner Platz stop. Line 5 also regularly stops at Bahnhof/Mathematikum and Steinstraße. Line 24 of the ESE transport company will stop at the Bahnhof/Mathematikum, Mühlstraße and Schützenstraße stops until around 17:50. Line 11 of the Wetzlar transport company is expected to return to the Berliner Platz and Johanneskirche stops from 16:00. "We assume that the regular routes and the Sunday timetable will apply from 17:50," says Anne-Müller Kreutz and has another tip for all passengers on Carnival Sunday: "If you want to use the city bus with several people on Sunday, you should choose the inexpensive group day ticket. It is valid for a maximum of five people and costs 6.30 euros for the city journey." By comparison, a single journey for adults costs 1.80 euros.
