Construction work takes longer than planned
Due to unforeseen additional work, the laying of district heating pipes in Aulweg is taking longer than planned.
The current construction site in Aulweg, where Stadtwerke Gießen (SWG) is laying new district heating pipes, is taking longer than originally expected. The reason for the delay: while opening the necessary trench, the experts came across an old gate valve cross on a water pipe, which prompted them to reschedule. The condition of the ageing component was not yet critical. However, after analysing it, those responsible came to the conclusion that it would have to be replaced in the foreseeable future. "What could be more obvious than to carry out this modernisation right now," explains Ulli Boos, company spokesperson for SWG. In addition, the sewer also proved to be potentially in need of renovation in some places. Consequently, the decision was made to lay new pipes in the affected areas. "Doing all of this in one go not only saves costs, but also reduces the risk of damage, which would then be associated with a larger construction site. This is precisely what we want to avoid in the interests of local residents," says Ulli Boos, explaining the approach.
The unplanned renovations are expected to extend the overall construction period by two months - i.e. until the end of September. The current traffic routing will also remain in place for this period: one side of the carriageway between Leihgesterner Weg and Wartweg will continue to be closed to traffic and Aulweg will only be accessible in the direction of Schubertstraße.
