On Thursday, 8 March, the municipal buses in Giessen will come to a standstill. The trade union ver.di has called the drivers of the Stadtwerke Gießen (SWG) subsidiary MIT.BUS, among others, to strike. Anne Müller-Kreutz, Head of Local Transport Services at SWG, therefore advises: "Passengers on all bus routes in Giessen and the surrounding area should be prepared for cancellations and plan accordingly. The strike is expected to last the entire day."

Negotiations without result
Background: The trade union ver.di is currently negotiating with the state association of Hessian bus operators (LHO) about bus drivers' wages and is demanding higher pay for all public sector employees. So far, both negotiations have remained without result. Last week, the drivers of some private bus companies in several Hessian cities therefore stopped work. Public sector employees in many German cities have also been on strike since Monday. According to ver.di, the industrial action next Thursday will focus on northern and central Hesse for the entire day.
