Around 200 interested parties accepted the invitation from Stadtwerke Gießen to the open day at the thermal waste treatment and energy utilisation plant.

Stadtwerke Gießen (SWG) has been generatingCO2-neutral heat from processed waste in its thermal waste treatment and energy utilisation plant, TREA I for short, for 14 years now. For almost as long, the company has been inviting interested members of the public to take a look at the still innovative heating plant as part of an open day.

Last Sunday, around 200 visitors once again took the opportunity to see the efficient technology up close and have its function explained to them. "It's always great to see how many people are interested in large-scale heat generation," says Matthias Fink, Head of the Heat Supply Department at SWG. Together with four colleagues, he guided groups of five to 20 people through the heating plant, describing all the important plant components and processes and answering lots of questions. The information stand, where SWG explained the many benefits of its district heating, was also well attended. "More and more people are recognising the key role that decarbonisation plays in the heating sector and want to know how we are tackling the issue. It goes without saying that we are happy to help, pass on our knowledge and make the heat transition tangible," adds Matthias Fink.
