BVB plays against SWG district selection Giessen

On Tuesday, 1 August, Stadtwerke Gießen AG (SWG) has a top-class sporting treat in store for all football fans as part of the 150th anniversary of the gas supply. Borussia Dortmund will play against the SWG district team from Giessen in Giessen's Waldstadion. Kick-off is at 19:00. Anyone who didn't have the chance to watch the ball magic of Sebastian Kehl, Christoph Metzelder, David Odonkor and Co. live in a stadium during the World Cup will have the opportunity to do so in Giessen in August.

The aim of Stadtwerke is to offer its customers and the people in the region a sporting highlight. "If we look at the last few weeks, it should be clear that the whole of Germany is in the grip of World Cup fever," agree SWG CEO Manfred Siekmann and his fellow board member Reinhard Paul. "Although the World Cup will come to an end on 9 July, the euphoria for the round leather will certainly remain. In any case, the game should not fail to have an effect on football fans in the region," said the SWG board members, looking forward to a "full house" at the Waldstadion in Giessen and "enthusiastic spectators". The district football manager, Henry Mohr, is also convinced by the campaign. "The friendly match is a great thing for the region and a special challenge for the players," says Henry Mohr.

The SWG Giessen district team
BVB's opponents in the friendly match will be an SWG district team from Giessen. In co-operation with the Giessen football district, Stadtwerke Giessen organises a cup round at district level every year. The Giessen team is made up of the four best teams in this cup round. Players from TSV Grünberg, FSV Steinbach, VfB 1900 Gießen and TSV Allendorf/Lahn will be competing. The cup participants will be supported by SC Waldgirmes. Achim Mohr as coach and Jörg Zachariasz as co-coach are experienced sportsmen at the disposal of the selected players.

From Signal Iduna Park to the Waldstadion
Thanks to SWG's commitment, the three-time German champions from the Ruhr area will be playing at the home ground of VfB 1900 Gießen. The VfB team is supporting the Giessen-based energy and water supplier in organising the match.
