Unknown callers are once again pretending to be employees of Stadtwerke Gießen and trying to obtain sensitive customer data. The energy supplier is asking people to report suspicious calls.

Dodgy callers are currently trying again to pressure customers of Stadtwerke Gießen (SWG) to disclose sensitive data. They are pretending to be employees of the energy supplier. So far, the following mysterious call has been reported to SWG: An unknown man on the phone claimed to the daughter of a customer that she had taken part in the SWG prize draw for a car some time ago. She had not won the car, but Stadtwerke Gießen would like to give her a consolation prize. Unsettled, the daughter passed the phone on to her mother. She responded promptly and wanted to know from the caller exactly what the prize was. The obvious crook then became angry, first asked for her daughter and then hung up. "We strongly advise all of our customers not to disclose any details when receiving calls like this and ideally to hang up straight away," explains Ulli Boos, Head of Marketing at SWG.

Support requested

Calls with a fraudulent background are unfortunately a recurring issue for SWG. The energy supplier therefore asks those affected to make a note of the caller's telephone number and then contact SWG and describe the case in question. "The more we learn about the behaviour of the suspected fraudsters, the better we can warn our customers in advance and, if necessary, take action against the fraudsters," adds Ulli Boos. SWG accepts such reports either by telephone on its service number 0800 2302100 or as a text message to its WhatsApp number 0151 15213066.
